Breakfast @ Ti Amo

You won't be blown away but it's pleasant enough. The breakfast menu is pretty standard but has some of the biggest pancakes I have ever seen. Later in the day the menu gives way to pasta and other Italian styled dishes. Convenient.

Address: 57 Hampden Rd, Nedlands

Cuisine:
 Cafe/Italian

Price range: $$

Must try: huge pancakes

The Prophet

The banquet caters well to vegetarians and has to be one of the best value in Perth

I start dribbling when I even think about the banquet at The Prophet. Bring a gang and don't eat for a week beforehand. The salad has fried bread, the bread has some sort of addictive drug in, the dips are to die for and the felafel are eye-opening. It's yawnfully boring inside, parking is a hassle and the toilets are dodgy, but it is so very very worth it. Book well in advance or order takeaway.

Address: 907a Albany Hwy, Vic Park

Cuisine:
 Lebanese

Price range: $$

Must try: felafel

Boubar Cafe

They really seem to like eggs here, and most of the breakfast dishes have them in one form or another. As such, Boubar is very vegetarian friendly. It's small and perfectly located for hospital and university staff and students, but it's cute and friendly enough for kids, while not being exactly kid-friendly.

Address: 31A Hampden Rd, Nedlands

Cuisine:
 Cafe

Price range: $

Must try: eggs or eggs

Breakfast @ Little Pantry

It's tiny, and during the week the breakfast menu is limited to whatever is in the case, but the things in the case are delicious and on weekend the full menu is worth the wait. Service is helpful and friendly, the cakes and muffins are inspired and lunches are great to eat there or grab as a quick takeaway.

Address: 206 Nicholson Rd, Shenton Park

Cuisine:
 Cafe

Price range: $

Must try: vegetarian bagel

Amphoras Bar

Love love love. Yummy food. Great service. Free street parking in the evenings. This is share food at its best. The wine service is non-pretentious and it is wonderful for small groups who like to pick and share and try new things. Don't bother trying to share desserts.

Address: 1303 Hay St, West Perth

Cuisine:
 Tapas

Price range: $$

Must try: calamari

Breakfast @ Domain on Loch

A cute little cafe that takes you back to Grandma's house with its decor, but stays current with its interesting and seasonal menu. Big fresh flavours and dishes that you don't see elsewhere, this is a pleasant way to start the day. There's no view to speak of, but a lovely al fresco area with painted mushrooms that may or may not hide fairies.

Address: Corner of Loch and Bedford Sts, Claremont

Cuisine:
 Cafe

Price range: $$

Must try: breakfast pizza

Breakfast @ Naked Fig

One of the Fig sisters, the Naked Fig offers a great view of the beach (alas not the nude beach). They offer an interesting stable of breakfast dishes, that despite an overzealous use of pea shoots are both fresh and unusual. Kids are welcome but if they have a decent appetite, skip the kids meals as they are quite petite.

Address: 278 Marine Pde, Swanbourne

Cuisine:
 Cafe

Price range: $

Must try: potato and feta pancake

Breakfast @ Globe Coffee House

It's tiny and parking can be tricky, but if you're in the area and want a really fresh breakfast full of flavour rather than fat, then you should pop into this little cafe. Simple but big flavours and generous serves make this small but mighty. Good for vegetarians.

Address: 672 Beaufort St, Mt Lawley

Cuisine:
 Cafe, breakfast

Price range: $

Must try: trio of crostini (mushroom, tomato and avocado, pictures)

Public House

If you can tell the quality of the kitchen by the way they treat their humble vegetables, then the brilliant 'burnt' carrots suggests there is some magic behind the scenes at Public House

It's a bit hit and miss, with some great dishes and crazy desserts, but the service was vague and music so loud everyone was shouting. Perfect for small groups who want to try a huge range of interesting dishes but not so good for vegetarians.

Address: Shop 2, 263 Adelaide Terrace, Perth

Cuisine:
 South American

Price range: $$$

Must try: burnt carrots or crispy polenta

Breakfast @ Leapfrogs

The revamping of the cafe at the Wanneroo Mini Golf is just the cherry on the pie. It means you can have a reasonable meal at the start (or end) of a great game of golf in some of the best gardens in Perth. Fabulous for kids, there is a small but varied menu, with wood-fired pizzas kicking in at lunchtime. Opens rather late for the early birds...

Address: Botanic Gardens and Mini Golf, 25 Drovers Place, Wanneroo

Cuisine:
 Cafe

Price range: $$

Must try:  breakfast bruschetta

Clancy's Fish Pub

It's a pub. It's a restaurant. It's a cafe. It's good for grown-ups. It's fine for kids. It has fish and nets and buoys and starfish on every available surface. Perfect for those who want a meal at random times of day. Skip dessert and buy icecream on the way home.

Address: 195 Challenger Parade, City Beach

Cuisine:
 Pub/Seafood

Price range: $$

Must try: fish and chips

Choux Cafe

Only if you are on a serious diet should you stay away from this tiny little box of goodness hidden in the burbs. You can get a sugar coma just by staring into the case crammed with all manner of French delicacies, each more beautiful and intricate than the last. It's like staring into the sun. Plan to arrive early in the day or risk missing out.

Address: 93 Shenton Rd, Swanbourne

Cuisine: Patisserie

Price range: $

Must try: everything

Wembley Dim Sum

Yes, it's in a food court, but that's no reason to dismiss it. With most dishes freshly prepared while you wait, it means that the food is probably fresher than in normal dim sum restaurants. The surroundings aren't classy, but the food is quick and tasty and you can get your yum cha fix any day of the week.

Address: Wembley International Forum, Cambridge St, Wembley

Cuisine:
 Dim Sum

Price range: $

Must try: salt and pepper squid
