Betty's Cafe

In dropping the 'retro' from its name, Bettys became a little more business-like, consolidating its menu, moving from funky Leederville to the 'burbs and expanding the floorplan. But it still does great burgers, perhaps not as gourmet as others in Perth, but generous and fresh and full of flavour. And bang-smack in the middle of the movies.

Address: Event Cinemas, Liege St, Innaloo

Cuisine:
 Burgers

Price range: $

Miss Maud's Seconds and Discounts

Not at all scary...

They don't really advertise, and it's a bit hard to find. And when you get there you think this can't possibly be the right place, but once you're inside you will find all the excess stock, seconds and other discounted goodies from the Miss Maud's Bakehouse. Go with an open mind, as you don't know what will be available, but you should find everything from full cakes to sausage rolls to muffins and breads.

The Heritage Bar and Brasserie

Cheapest on the menu - Cumberland sausages and mash, and how good do those onion rings look?

There is a lot to like about The Heritage, one of the flash new restaurants in ΓΌber cool Brookfield Place. It can feel a little stuffy at times, perhaps it's all the suited businessmen lingering over 'work dinners', but the $25 special will make you smile, if you can't find anything on the (pricey) main menu (though you will). One tip, save room for dessert.

Breakfast @ Gordon Street Garage

These sweetcorn fritters with corn salsa, feta and house smoked salmon is probably my all time favourite breakfast.

The room is a cavernous, converted workshop, with various spaces to enjoy the fantastic food, and you will find all sorts of Perth people perched on tables and couches and bar stools. Breakfast is my favourite meal, and the ones I have eaten here are some of the best I have tried. It's big, it's loud and all the frills are in the food.

If you are an unadventurous eater, if you lack stamina or the ability to try new things that might look a little strange, if you are economically disadvantaged, claustrophobic or are a control freak, then eating at Amuse is not for you.
